Wolf At The Door: History
Wolf At The Door is an adaptation of Les Corbeaux (The Crows) by the French playwright Henry Becque. He was a highly regarded writer of realist drama, a friend and contemporary of Ibsen and Strindberg and is regarded as an important figure in early modern drama.Wolf At The Door was the British premiere of a new translation by Professor David Walker, who had met Alan Ayckbourn when receiving an honorary degree from Keele University. Believing the play contained a similar vein of dark humour found in Alan’s plays, Professor Walker sent Alan the script in the hope he would read it. Alan not only read it, but also agreed to adapt and stage it at the Stephen Joseph Theatre In The Round in Scarborough.
The play was premiered in September 1989 and received some excellent reviews. The play is published by Samuel French and available for production.
